Ask around for alternative doctor recommendations.
Ask your friend what other alternative practices resonates with them? Yoga, meditation, massage, reflexology, Reiki and so many more are available, depending on where you live. Bodywork is very beneficial for helping the immune system do it's job.
Encourage a stay at a healing retreat. These retreat clinics can be expensive, but I think it is a great investment.
