Our Home Routes concert series is coming close to the end. Two concerts left in our winter season.
Nathan Rogers has one foot firmly planted in the past and the other stepping into a bright future, Rogers has the skills to become a major force in the world of folk music. Aside from his notable pedigree (think father, Stan and uncle, Garnet), Nathan has already garnered a wide critical acclaim from audiences at home in Canada and internationally from countries as far afield as Germany, Denmark, the UK, Israel and the USA. With two albums and various international tours completed in the past six years, the 33-year-old is taking his place as a major force in folk music. He plays six-string and twelve-string guitars, plays a stomp box for rhythm and sings with a deep, resonant baritone that has an eerie similarity to his deceased father. He tells deeply cinematic and descriptive stories through song and his lyrics reflect a profound sense of respect for everyday people and unsung heroes. Nathan has recently become an adept throat singer in the Tuvan style, a form of singing that produces two or more notes simultaneously. It is a small part of a performance that has been described as “intelligent and witty” and “capable of turning the folk world on its ears”.
