Step Ten - Have Fun!
We honestly take life way too seriously. Laughter has been proven to cure so why not do more of it!
There are so many little things that you can do to have fun and laugh. Here are a few of my own suggestions:
STEP TEN - HAVE FUN
This concludes the 10 Steps to Helping a friend on a healing journey. Bridget Shaw has done a wonderful job capturing really important points. Hope you have enjoyed her steps.

Have you every walked in the Redwood Forest? Most of the trees took over a thousand years to grow. That takes a little patience to get to their 25 feet in diameter and their outstanding 326 feet stories high.
Patience is necessary when taking a dis-eased body and turning it into a healthy body. The dis-ease did not come over night. It grew and manifested itself over time, maybe even in a previous life time.
Give yourself the time you need to "heal" your body. Be patient and do enjoy every breath.
STEP NINE - BE PATIENT AND BREATHE
Step Eight - Find Purpose
At the Calder House, we help guests re-connect with themselves. They come here seeking answers. One recommendation we often give is explaining the power of "service"; finding a way to contribute to others.
The beauty of "Finding Purpose" and "Service" is it allows you to remove yourself from your own troubles and dis-ease. It gives you the opportunity to do something for someone else. It brings "light" to your heart and cures all that ails you. And the biggest bonus is seeing the gratitude in the receiver's eyes! Try it, you'll like it.
Bridget Shaw's tip is as follows:
STEP EIGHT - FIND PURPOSE
Clean Out the House! Ever pay attention to how your body reacts to your environment? The Chinese understood the impact your environment has on your physical body and they did this through the teachings and principals of Feng Shui.
Bridget's Shaw tip speaks of clutter both in the material world and the relationship world. When we are surrounded by things or people who have a "negative" vibe, this energy depletes our own resources. You have to find a way to remove yourself from these situations in order to become healthier.
STEP SEVEN - CLEAN OUT THE HOUSE
Have you ever notice how bloated you feel after you've eaten a meal with meat, dairy and processed foods? It always amazes me how often I feel sick after I've eaten these foods. Food is supposed to give us energy not weigh us down like an anchor. Here is what Bridget teaches us in Step Six about our PH levels in the body.
Step Six - Understanding How the PH of the Body Works
I'd be the first one to admit that I don't believe in taking drugs prescribed from the western medical society. Throughout the course of my life I have used natural supplements when dealing with dis-ease. However, I truly believe that through diet with foods selected from organic sources have a higher vibration and therefore supplement your physical needs much better.
It is very difficult to get into a routine of taking your supplements and teas & tinctures. When in a healing crisis it's always the little things that have the biggest impact on our health, so it's extremely important to follow through and take these. Here is Bridget Shaw's Step Four:
STEP FIVE- Encouraging Taking Supplements & Following the Diet
Step Four is about encouraging boosting the immune system. This can be done is so many countless ways. If you been diagnosed with a dis-ease your immune system is completely compromised and you need to give it an overhaul in order to get it back and working for you. I encourage you to do this with the guidance of a holistic healer, someone who has the knowledge of how the body works, but also knows how to read your body for signs as to prescribe the right healing course for you. As Bridget mentions below a naturalpathic doctor, iridologist , Ayurveda doctor, and Chinese medicine doctor all of these can help.
The immune system is strengthened by holistic treatments & practices like yoga, meditation, massage, IET (Intergrated Energy Therapy), BodyTalk, Reflexology, Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, Quantum Touch, Ayurvedic therapies, aromatherapy, and etc. There are so many wonderful modalities available for you. A great resource is the PrairieWellnessRetreat.com. Many practitioners, facilitators, retreats, retreat hosts, organic foods, products are listed there.
Here is Bridget Shaw's Step Four tip:
STEP FOUR - Encourage Boosting the Immune System
Step Three - HELP THEM CLEAN OUT THE FOOD CUPBOARDS
We have all heard the saying "You are what you eat". We certainly have been reminded of this past Thanks Giving Weekend! How many of you ate too much and felt like you could crawl into a corner and sleep the rest of the night.
For some of us our food choices are already wholesome, organic and we've already taken the steps to be mindful and conscientious of what goes into our bodies...but we all have that occasional chocolate, chips, crackers, sugar, coffee indulgence. If we "treat" ourselves to these foods once or twice a week, it probably won't kill us, but if we treat ourselves a couple times a day...the negative effects will take place over time.
We also need to be aware that what we absorb through the skin is just as important as what we put in our mouths. Our skin is the largest organ we have and you should NEVER put anything on it that you would not put in your mouth.
Here is what Bridget Shaw writes on her Step Three:
STEP THREE - HELP THEM CLEAN OUT THE FOOD CUPBOARDS
Step Two - Change the Negative to Positive in Everything They Do!
Have you every listen to the voice in your head that speaks to you? It's mind boggling how negative it can really be. Becoming aware of the negative voice and changing it takes practice, but all so doable.
Bridget Shaw also suggests in step two it's a good idea to have a Mantra. There are different types of Mantras and my good friend and business partner Marilyn Pierce shared with me one that Grail Springs in Bancroft, ON uses. It's a series of movements that open your chakras and lets in love as well as releases it.
It's absolutely stunning to witness it, but even more so to actually do it is life changing. It always amazes me that when I do this Mantra it humbles me and makes me cry every time...Amazing!
Step Two - Change the Negative to Positive in Everything They Do!
I recently hurt my back by pretending I was a carpenter for the day. I was in the midst of removing 100 year old floor boards from our attic. The injury was caused by being bent at a 180 angle for several hours. You see I'm not 20 years old anymore. Not that I'm old, but when your muscles are not used to doing something, well you get the gist. My pain was very real and I could hardly walk.
I had no time to be out of commission, for I had a jammed packed 4 days. I was heading off to Brandon for a Bed and Breakfast of Manitoba conference, then the following day was setting up a display booth at the Mind, Body Spirit show in Winnipeg, and then off to Whitemouth to the Moon Gate Bed and Breakfast for a reflexology class. So you could imagine my panic, when the thought occurred to me that I might actually have to cancel all events.
Lucky for me the moment my back went out my carpenter who I was trying to assist is also a reflexologist and knows lots about acupuncture. So he got to work on me right away.
As you would have it, the second night of my injury my Reiki students were coming over for Reiki Share. This is an evening we get together and each take a turn in receive healing. We then share our experiences as the receiver and the healer. But this particular night was a special one, for I got to receive healing through my students. Simultaneously, all four of them used different methods of therapy from Raindrop therapy, to massage to Reiki. Those girls worked on me for 2 hours. It was truly an incredible feeling to have four sets of hands on you at one time. I literally felt like I was being massaged by an octopus.
The next day...I could stand up straight and walk with ease. 80% of the pain was gone.
The third day I was on my way to Souris, before my conference in Brandon. I wasn't out of the woods yet when it came to discomfort and pain. Circumstances surrounded me with more holistic healers at the Dolmage House Bed & Breakfast and Anna's Soul Spa. Once again I found myself on the massage table being worked on by 3 wonderful women. Next day....much better.
The fourth day I managed to get to Winnipeg and set up for the Mind, Body, Spirit show. Guess what? All the exhibitors are holistic healers. So I set myself up for a 20 minute treatment with Cecile offering Quantum Wave therapy. Cecile worked on my lower and upper back where all the pain was stored. By the end of the day, surrounded by a high energy vibrations, my pain was gone.
The fifth day once again, I 'm in the company of more holistic healers at my reflexology class at Moon Gate Bed and Breakfast. After a few practice reflexology treatments...my back pain...what back pain?
I took no drugs, I worked with my body, I acknowledge the messages it was giving me and I surrounded myself with holistic practitioners. Within 5 days the acute injury was healed.
It is amazing what our bodies are capable of!
It is with the deepest gratitude that I express a warm felt THANK YOU to all my "EARTH ANGELS". You know who you are (Carley, Michelle, Lise, Raylene, Marilyn, Jenny, Glenys, Cecile, Louise, Darlene and Michel). Thank you for allowing me to receive, thank you for bringing me the beautiful loving energy of Reiki, thank you for being a part of my HEALING journey!
